is when the skin on your dog’s nose or paws thickens and hardens. Rough to the touch, this disorder can cause your dog some discomfort. Some are born with it, while others develop it with age, it’s not uncommon for older dogs to suddenly develop hyperkeratosis.
Pododermatitis occurs less frequently in cats than in dogs.
The clinical presentation, approach to diagnosis and management of some of the more common and important conditions associated with feline pododermatitis are considered in this article. Trombiculidiasis and bacterial paronychia are among the most common infections in cats, while fungal infections, although infrequent, are important. Other important but infrequent causes of feline pododermatitis dealt with include atopic disease, cutaneous adverse food reactions, pemphigus foliaceus, plasma cell pododermatitis and paraneoplastic alopecia (metabolic epidermal necrosis).
Suggesting the use of HAMPL Footro 50ml formula for assisting Hoof Rot, also known as pododermatitis, which is caused by a bacteria (Fusobacterium Necrophorum) that thrives in wet, decaying, airless material such as mud and manure. When the hoof becomes packed with this material, the lack of air and constant moisture work together to create a perfect breeding environment for pathogens. Hoof Rot specifically affects the sole of the hooves between the wall and the hood, whereas the related condition Hoof Scald affects the area between the hoofs claws (toes) and Thrush tends to only affect the frog. Apply or spray Organic Apple Cider Vinegar around frog inside the hoof. Twice a day if bad.
What is Feline Plasma Cell Pododermatitis? (or Pillow Foot – Pillow Pad OR Foot Rot)
Feline plasma cell pododermatitis is a rare dermatological condition exclusively described in cats.
Plasma cell pododermatitis is an inflammatory disease that affects the footpads of cats. The pads become infiltrated by plasma cells, a type of white blood cell.
What are plasma cells?
They’re immune cells that would normally secrete antibodies in response to an infection. Symptoms of feline plasma cell pododermatitis. Pododermatitis can affect any footpad, but most commonly it involves the large or central pad of the front or back feet (called the metacarpal or metatarsal pads). Generally, all four feet are affected, but occasionally a cat will have only one affected foot.
Affected pads are typical:
Quick to bleed.
The pads might then become painful and cause your cat to limp.
Cats with feline plasma cell pododermatitis also often lick or chew at their feet.
Feline plasma cell pododermatitis can be considered a cutaneous reaction pattern with multiple causes, and FIV infection may be a predisposing factor.
If you cat is FIV positive or FeLV positive – also use in conjunction with Naturopathic Set for AN164 FeLV or AN159 – FIV Naturopathic Set
Histopathological findings were characterized by a superficial and deep perivascular lymphoplasmacytic dermatitis (two cases), an almost pure diffuse plasmacytic dermatitis (15 cases, 10 FIV positive), a diffuse plasmacytic dermatitis with lymphocytes grouped in follicular structures (four cases, all FIV positive) and a granulomatous inflammation (five cases, one FIV positive).
Plasmacytic infiltration was also observed in one FIV‐positive case within the kidneys, liver and lungs. * If possibly affecting major organs please request further assistance for this.
Bumblefoot Plantar Pododermatitis, Foot Pad Dermatitis, Foot Infection Bumblefoot, a term used to describe a condition known as plantar pododermatitis (inflammation of the foot), is a common cause of pain and lameness in domestic duck breeds. Bumblefoot was named after the “bumble-like” appearance of the sores during the more advanced stages of the infection. Bumblefoot in birds is similar to what diabetic foot ulcers are for humans.
Clinically, during the early stages of bumblefoot, it may initially appear as a small, superficial lesion, rough abrasion, or mild discoloring of the foot. However, once there is a breakdown in the skin barrier, it provides a direct opening for opportunistic bacteria (often Staphylococcus aureus) to enter and cause infection.
Once the foot is infected, ducks often begin to show slight behavioral changes (associated with an onset of pain caused by the infection) and varying degrees of lameness.
If left unassisted or not assisted appropriately, the infection often becomes chronic and progressive, eventually spreading into the underlying bones, tendons and joints and resulting in osteomyelitis, tenosynovitis, septicemia, and arthritis.
Sore Hocks in Rabbits (Pododermatitis) or bumblefood
Sore hocks mean that the ‘heels’ of the rabbit’s feet have become inflamed. Vets tend to refer to this condition as ‘sore hocks’ or ‘bumblefoot’, though the medical term for this condition is pododermatitis.
The most common cause of sore hocks in rabbits is hopping about on hard, unnatural surfaces such as carpet, tiles, and wire mesh. These surfaces are much harder than sand, grass, and soil. Also, obesity and arthritis can further aggravate the condition.
Bumblefoot can range in severity from mild to very serious. The biggest concern is that pododermatitis could develop into ulcerative pododermatitis, and eventually, deep infection. So, if you suspect your rabbit has sore hocks, you’re doing the right thing by intervening and using natural remedies to heal this condition.
Pets with Hot Spots
Hot spots, also known as acute moist dermatitis, are painful, red areas of infected skin that appear to be irritated and are sometimes raised.
The key to preventing hot spots in dogs is determining the underlying cause.
Most hot spots on dogs are caused by an underlying condition that either causes itchiness, excessive licking, or excessive moisture.
The most common conditions include:
- Allergies (flea allergy, food allergy, or seasonal allergies, chemical allergies, drug side effects, insecticide flea and worming or heartworm products, drops and tablets or injection)
- Ear infections
- Excessive moisture from swimming
- Excessive licking due to boredom
- Poor grooming
- Anal gland inflammation

Echinacea Auguarifolia – a natural antibiotic, as well as antiviral, antifungal and disinfectant. Has the ability to boost the strength of t-lymphocytes. T-cells are vital to the immune system as they help the body to increase the number of antibodies that you have circulating. They work to fight off pathogenic invaders and virus’s, as well as increasing the ability of the white blood cells to deal with any viruses or other micro-organisms that you may encounter. Very effective to strengthen immune system health and aid the immune system to fight the effects of colds and flu. This includes helping to assist sore throats, hay fever, coughs and upper respiratory infections such as bronchitis and sinusitis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterial infection.
Goldenseal – Goldenseal has been shown in the research to be both antibiotic and antiviral. It is possible that berberine (a major component of goldenseal) also kills a wide range of other types of germs in test tubes, such as those that cause candida (yeast) infections and parasites such as tapeworms and Giardia. Berberine may also activate white blood cells, making them better at fighting infection and strengthening the immune system.
Pau d Arco – an antifungal known to assistCandida albicans, Candida tropicalis, and Cryptococcus neoformans, that was similar to Amphotericin B. The presumed antifungal activity of lapachol is believed to be due to its interaction with the cellular membrane.
Baptisia (wild indigo) – herb has numerous medicinal properties. It is not only helpful in aiding the purifying of the blood through the liver, and to increase bile production. but it also helps our spleen and the glands in our lymphatic system. General Dosing and Instructions Guide
For all species, size, and ages.
(a) “HOMEOPATHICS”are sold in either a clear liquid or tiny white pills or granules – both have no odour or taste) Easy “application dosing” for all species:
- Homeopathic DROPS (clear liquid) DRIP or APPLY 3 to 4 drops, pat into fur/skin with bottom of bottle. i.e. back of shoulder blades (not orally) which is regarded as one dose for all size species and ages. Note: Liquid homeopathics are more suited for feline, toy dog, fish, birds and other small species
- Homeopathic PILLS (white pills) crush a pill (or whole) and add to gum/pouch of mouth to dissolve in saliva. Does not need to swallow it.
- Homeopathic GRANULES (white grain) and a small light sprinkle or a pinch to meals, or stir into water trough or bowl.
Casual repeat dosing can add to water bowl or feed dish or water trough for wildlife or farm animals.
Refer to Bottle Label for suggested frequencies repeat dosing needed per day.
NOTE: the rule is one must “repeat a dose” more frequently with less time in between each application dose, which is more important than the amount given each time. Repeat application will provide faster action.
(b) “HERBAL MEDICINES ” (brown liquid – strong odour & tasting) ”Application dosing” for all species and sizes: Canine, equine, cow, sheep, goat : add herbal drops (as recommended on bottle label) to some (unsweetened apple sauce or apple juice) for canines and oral syringe side of mouth. Can add other vitamins (crushed) Alkaline green powders etc. to mix.
Refer to Bottle Label for amount of drops per species size. e.g 60 drops = 1 teaspoon
What I do for example: If I was needing to give herbal solutions and/or vitamin supplements to feline or toy dog or other small animals – I add this herbal formula to a small bowl add some boiled water (about a teaspoon) to it so to dissolve the alcohol in it, let cool, then add what vitamins If needed (powder or crushed tab – a pinch) mixed in another 50ml of water, and oral syringe once a day or twice a day …smear on a little “vegemite paste” (if cannot get Vegemite in your country, try fresh pate or slippery elm powder added can help mask the taste) around and on tip of oral syringe, as felines seem to real like the taste of this paste, but not too much as it is quite a strong taste)
(c)“NUTRITIONAL Mix ” Giving vitamins and supplements (tablets or powders) Note: always crush tablet before adding to food or liquid mix. Felines or small animals: make up 1 cup of mixture, adding approx. a pinch of some type of Green powder (alkaline powder) or Chlorella powder (cleansing of toxins) or 1/4 Teaspoons of Slippery elm powder (to mask the taste) with 1 teaspoon of herbs if you are having to also give herbal medicines (i.e. brown liquid) Med to large animals: add twice to three times the amount.
DOSING: Feline or small animal: using an oral syringe draw up 1ml and gently small sips. Or add a teaspoon to meals if they don’t mind eating it with meals (mix well into food) Do not put in Fridge. Room temp is best as too cold is dislike by felines.
DOSING: Canine, equine, cow, sheep, goat: try mixing well into food and hand piece before feeding main meals. Or dose same as suggested for felines, but add three times as much herbal medicines and vitamins to 1/2 cup of water or (unsweetened) apple sauce or apple juice.
What I do for example: If i was needing to give herbal solutions and/or vitamin supplements to feline or toy dog or other small animals – I add this herbal formula to 1/2 cup of boiled hot water to it so to dissolve the alcohol in it, let cool, then add what vitamins If needed (powder or crushed tab – a pinch) mixed in another 50ml of water, and oral syringe once a day or twice a day …. smear on a little “vegemite paste” (if cannot get Vegemite in your country, try fresh pate or slippery elm powder added can help mask the taste) around and on tip of oral syringe, as felines seem to real like the taste of this paste, but not too much as it is quite a strong taste)
Slippery Elm Powder If needing to add or use Slippery Elm powder
FOR CONDITIONS like …. diarrhea, stomach ulcers, or sore inflamed mouth or mouth ulcers, constipation, or IBS (i.e. colitis), plus it can also been given as a liquid meal given orally via syringe as it is highly nutritional (oral liquid feeding) for convalescing during illness when not eating solids.
CONVALESCING ..can been given as a liquid meal given orally via syringe as it is highly nutritional (oral liquid feeding) for convalescing during illness when not eating solids or not eating very well. ~ Add a small amount of powder to the mix to enough to make a runny liquid mix, if you put too much of the powder it will become thick and gluggy, if this happens you will need to add more liquid to it. Can add crushed vitamins and herbal medicines to this as well. OPTIONS: Oral dose in syringe or add to meals three times a day or more to maintain normal health again, then can stop or reduce frequencies.
