AN179 Equine Stringhalt - muscle symptoms herbal and homeopathics
Although the Stringhalt condition, as occurs in other countries can be caused by neurological damage to the hind limb nerves by microbial infections and trauma, Australian Stringhalt and its seasonal occurrence is more specific to Australia and New Zealand, especially following drought conditions. Often it affects specific localities or geographical areas due to favorable seasonal conditions.
Research in the late 1980's and early 1990's in Australia and New Zealand was carried out to find the possible cause for the damaging effect on the long nerves of the hind limbs and neck.
These studies concluded that horses grazing pasture dominated with the weed known as Cats Ear or Flat Weed (Hypochoeris radicata) were associated with seasonal outbreaks of Stringhalt.
The type of nerve damage suggests a mold toxin (mycotoxin) or a fungal is a poison that directly affects the long myelinated nerves in the hind limbs and also the long left Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve in the neck. If you feel it could be a mold toxin - also give your horse NEEM POWDER (herb) E.G. Organic India Neem Capsules - leaves, flowers – from iherb.com
Neem herb - also helps detox heavy metals (vaccine toxins), and is also a parasitic (wormer) and Activated Charcoal - research studies have shown that activated charcoal decreases the toxic load on the body by over 60% with daily use. This is due to its ability to bind and grab up chlorine, pesticides and herbicides, bacteria, viruses, yeast, parasites, toxic chemicals and endotoxic metabolites.
DOSAGE - Neem Capsules
Feline-Toy dog or small animal: add 1/4 powder from the capsule in meals three times a week.
Larger pets and animals, equines: add 1/2 - 1 powder from a capsule in meals.
DOSAGE - "Activated charcoal powder" or capsules
Put 1 capsule or half a teaspoon of "Activated charcoal" in a cup of water in a jar. Shake before using, and pour a couple of tablespoon in meals twice a day. Or oral syringe 2 to 5ml orally side of the mouth (small sips till the amount is taken) * After a month or when finished taking Neem powder caps, go back to one activated charcoal in evening meals, ongoing for good health. Continue for a month.
Fungal Infection like mold exposures - mycotoxins.
In general Mold - fungal infections can cause sickness - which includes memory loss, headaches, nosebleeds, nausea, diarrhea, bronchitis, sinus infection, asthma type trouble breathing.
Mycotoxins - was characterized by gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, and giddiness) followed by effects on the central nervous system (drowsiness, prolonged sleepiness, twitching, convulsions, blindness, and paralysis). The onset of symptoms occurred 1± 48 hours following exposure; there were no fatalities.
Severe cases develop the characteristic goose-stepping gait and often a roaring like sound when exercised due to the collapse of the left laryngeal structure. Refer to: HAMPL Trachi189 -1 30ml (homeopathic) if you feel this is what your horse is also needing.
Very Important for situations
Your horse also will be needing therapeutic dosing of Magnesium supplement (minerals).
How important is the Mineral "Magnesium"?
Magnesium also makes up bone health. It is also an important relaxant for muscles. As well magnesium stimulates the hormone calcitonin, which helps to preserve bone structure by drawing calcium out of the blood and soft tissues back into the bones. This action helps lower the likelihood of osteoporosis, some forms of arthritis, heart attack and kidney (calcium oxalate stones). So, if you're taking lots of calcium and not much magnesium or none, you are then highly susceptible to these conditions. In fact, it is advised not to take oral calcium supplements with or without magnesium, as we obtain calcium in many types of foods, but magnesium is lost very quickly, from stress, drugs, and calcium. We actually only need to take oral Magnesium. Calcium actually depletes magnesium in the body. Most of us (and pets) are storing calcium in the blood and soft tissues, so we do not need any more calcium, it is magnesium levels that we need to build up.
Note: RBC magnesium blood test is the only type of test that will reveal what is in the cells. Serum Magnesium tests only measure 1% of magnesium in the blood, not the cells of the body.
These studies are backed up by research demonstrating that magnesium deficiency results in:
Excess release of calcium from bone into the blood without accompanying bone formation.
Even mild magnesium deficiency is reported to be a leading risk factor for osteoporosis.Similarly, the use of calcium supplements in the face of a magnesium deficiency can lead to calcium deposition in the soft tissues, such as the joints, where it can promote arthritis, or in the kidney, contributing to kidney stones.

Medicinal Herbal Uses
Chinese Skullcap (Scutellaria Baicalensis) has been used for anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunoprotective, anti-cancer, anti-microbial, anti-viral, and circulatory conditions. Chinese skullcap is a potent synergist (increases benefit of other supplements); a property that is very important when choosing a supplement regimen. In other words, it enhances the value of other herbs, especially those with antimicrobial value. It is, by itself, strongly antiviral (especially against herpes viruses). It also offers antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is one of the primary supplements for use against mycoplasma. Chinese skullcap is also known for sedative properties. It contains melatonin, helpful for inducing sleep. Strongly protective of nerve tissue. Attenuates (calms) overactive immune function.
Red Clover herb - has metabolic diuretic (stimulates the removal of waste and water from the kidneys), lymphatic (stimulates lymph movement) and expectorant (supports the elimination of mucus from the lungs) properties. Because of these characteristics, red clover has been described as a 'blood purifier'.
Burdock Root herb - traditionally herbalists all over the world use Burdock Root as a blood purifier. It is a popular detoxifying agent that produces a diuretic effect on the body which aids the filtering of impurities from the bloodstream. By promoting perspiration, Burdock Root eliminates toxins through the skin. By producing a detoxifying effect, Burdock Root aids blood circulation and produces a variety of positive side effects. Burdock Root contains polyacetylenes that give the herb its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is used as a mild laxative that aids in the elimination of uric acid or gout. It is classified as an alternative, diuretic and diaphoretic. It helps the kidneys to filter out impurities from the blood very quickly. It clears congestion in respiratory, lymphatic, urinary and circulatory systems. Burdock releases water retention, stimulates digestion, aids kidney, liver and gallbladder function. It also functions as an aperient, depurative, and antiscorbutic.
Tumeric - shares similar liver protectant compounds that milk thistle and artichoke leaves contain. Turmeric decreases congestion and inflammation from stagnant mucous membranes. Turmeric is anti-inflammatory to the mucous membranes, which coat the throat, lungs, stomach, and intestines. It is a potent detoxifier. ~ Do not use this herbal formula above if your horse is Pregnant. Homeopathic remedies (e.g below) are perfectly fine to use on pregnant mares.

What I do for example: If I was needing to give herb treatments and/or vitamin supplements to feline or toy dog or other small animals – I add this herbal formula to a small bowl add some boiled water (about a teaspoon) to it so to dissolve the alcohol in it, let cool, then add what vitamins If needed (powder or crushed tab – a pinch) mixed in another 50ml of water, and oral syringe once a day or twice a day …smear on a little “vegemite paste” (if cannot get Vegemite in your country, try fresh pate or slippery elm powder added can help mask the taste) around and on tip of oral syringe, as felines seem to real like the taste of this paste, but not too much as it is quite a strong taste)
(c)“NUTRITIONAL Mix ” Giving vitamins and supplements (tablets or powders) Note: always crush tablet before adding to food or liquid mix. Felines or small animals: make up 1 cup of mixture, adding approx. a pinch of some type of Green powder (alkaline powder) or Chlorella powder (cleansing of toxins) or 1/4 Teaspoons of Slippery elm powder (to mask the taste) with 1 teaspoon of herbs if you are having to also give herbal medicines (i.e. brown liquid) Med to large animals: add twice to three times the amount.
DOSING: Feline or small animal: using an oral syringe draw up 1ml and gently small sips. Or add a teaspoon to meals if they don’t mind eating it with meals (mix well into food) Do not put in Fridge. Room temp is best as too cold is dislike by felines.
DOSING: Canine, equine, cow, sheep, goat: try mixing well into food and hand piece before feeding main meals. Or dose same as suggested for felines, but add three times as much herbal medicines and vitamins to 1/2 cup of water or (unsweetened) apple sauce or apple juice.
What I do for example: If i was needing to give herb treatments and/or vitamin supplements to feline or toy dog or other small animals – I add this herbal formula to 1/2 cup of boiled hot water to it so to dissolve the alcohol in it, let cool, then add what vitamins If needed (powder or crushed tab – a pinch) mixed in another 50ml of water, and oral syringe once a day or twice a day …. smear on a little “vegemite paste” (if cannot get Vegemite in your country, try fresh pate or slippery elm powder added can help mask the taste) around and on tip of oral syringe, as felines seem to real like the taste of this paste, but not too much as it is quite a strong taste)
Slippery Elm Powder If needing to add or use Slippery Elm powder
FOR CONDITIONS like …. diarrhea, stomach ulcers, or sore inflamed mouth or mouth ulcers, constipation, or IBS (i.e. colitis), plus it can also been given as a liquid meal given orally via syringe as it is highly nutritional (oral liquid feeding) for convalescing during illness when not eating solids.
CONVALESCING ..can been given as a liquid meal given orally via syringe as it is highly nutritional (oral liquid feeding) for convalescing during illness when not eating solids or not eating very well. ~ Add a small amount of powder to the mix to enough to make a runny liquid mix, if you put too much of the powder it will become thick and gluggy, if this happens you will need to add more liquid to it. Can add crushed vitamins and herbal medicines to this as well. OPTIONS: Oral dose in syringe or add to meals three times a day or more to maintain normal health again, then can stop or reduce frequencies.

Your Stringhalt formulas are just amazing & we thank you for making a fantastic product. We highly recommend it to anyone. You advised us to consider using the Martime Pine herbal liquid before & after a race/training as Macca is a competitive horse, I tried searching for this product on your website but wasnt sure which one you were recommending. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks again for such a great product. Regards, Rene Crone
I purchased the hampl Stringhalt Relief for our Standardbred horse & we are very impressed with the results. What are your recommendations in relation to exercising our horse & is there a period where the horse has to wait for the Stringhalt Relief to be out of their system before we then can race him? Thank you for a great product. Regards, Rene Crone
I recently contacted you about a horse with Stringhalt..... who immediately stopped sweating after a couple of doses. Until this point in my 17yrs Vet Nursing career I didnt believe in homeopathy, but your company has turned my thinking around. Thank you for a great formula!
