AN208 Skin Fungal Infection (fungal dermatitis - malassezia, pachydedermat, histoplasmosis, sporotrichosis, seborrhea dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis. Internal and external fungal issues for all species.
For canines, felines, possums, horses and any other species needing to resolve fungal (yeast) infection on the skin and internally strengthening and riding fungal strains that are commonly causing ill health within our animals. Avoid chemical harsh antibiotic drugs (use non-toxic antibiotics) to prevent this from happening again, using alternative and effective safe herbal antibiotics. May assist as a natural solution from Aspergillus (Aspergillosis) is a fungal infection that develops in the nose and sinuses of dogs and cats showing symptoms in nasal discharges.
* Dermatitis is a general term that refers to inflammation in the skin. In dogs and cats, dermatitis may be caused by yeast or bacterial infections in the skin.
How Yeast and Bacterial Dermatitis Happens in Dogs and Cats
Skin infections caused by yeast and bacteria rarely happen alone. Under normal circumstances, both canine and feline skin provides a defensive barrier that bacteria and yeast are unable to breach. However, when your dog or cat's skin becomes damaged, the environment on the surface of the skin changes. This change gives the normal yeast and bacteria living on the surface of the skin the opportunity to avoid the skin's normal defense systems and cause further damage to the skin.
If your dog or cat has been scratching excessively or has been losing his hair, it is possible that his skin has become infected by either bacteria or yeast. Various skin infections can cause changes in the skin that can allow yeast and bacteria to invade and infect the skin. If your pet has had a round or two of antibiotic drugs, and has not been given a good strong probiotic at the same time, then chances are your pet has very little gut flora left to fight off any invading bugs.
Potential underlying causes include:
Any disease process that damages or removes the skin's natural defensive measures can be a predisposing cause of a yeast and/or bacterial skin infection. The skin may be infected by numerous types of bacteria, including Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, E. Coli, Proteus, Pseudomonas and many others. The most common yeast infection seen in the skin is caused by Malassezia.
Symptoms of Secondary Bacterial or Yeast Infections in Dogs and Cats
Both yeast and bacterial skin infections will make your dog or cat extremely itchy. The symptoms seen will vary, depending on the underlying cause of the skin infection. However, reddened skin, hair loss, scabs and open sores are all possibilities with both yeast and bacterial skin infections.
~The term cat dermatitis applies to a variety of feline skin conditions like rashes, bumps, scabs and lesions. These problems are often the result of allergic reactions, infections, diseases and nutritional deficiencies. Skin conditions create irritation and discomfort, and may cause your cat to excessively itch, bite or groom a particular area. There are several factors that can contribute to symptoms of cat dermatitis, including flea bite allergies, bacterial, fungal and parasite infestations, and nutritional imbalances and allergies.
... Fungal Ringworm (is round circles) * See Ringworm Set
.... Cats can also develop bacteria-based dermatitis like Pyoderma. *See AN260 Skin Formula Set.
Nutritional Deficiencies and Allergies - Nutritional disorders are another source of cat skin infections and irritations. Deficiencies of vitamins A, E and complex B-vitamins like biotin, B6 and B7 have been attributed to symptoms like hair loss and scaly, dry and flaky skin. A lack of minerals like calcium, phosphorus and zinc picolinate have also been associated with cat dermatitis.
~ Fungal Infection (Malassezia pachydermatis) of the skin in Dogs.
Malassezia pachydermatis is a yeast found on the skin and ears of dogs. Though a normal inhabitant of these regions, an abnormal overgrowth of the yeast can cause dermatitis or inflammation of the skin. The exact reasons behind this disease are not yet known, but it has been linked to allergy, seborrhea, and possibly congenital (born with) and hormonal factors.
~ Malassezia dermatitis
can affect any breed of dog, but the following breeds are predisposed to this disease: poodles, basset hounds, West Highland white terriers, cocker spaniels, and Dachshunds. Symptoms and Types Irritation of skin Loss of hair (alopecia) Greasiness Scaly skin Redness of affected areas Malodorous discharge from lesions Patches of skin becoming darker (hyperpigmentation) and epidermal thickening (seen in chronic cases)
~ Seborrhea in Dogs
Seborrhea, also known as Seborrheic Dermatitis, is a common skin disorder in dogs that causes the skin to flake and become oily or greasy. With seborrhea, the sebaceous glands of the skin produce an excessive amount of sebum. The excess sebum is what gives off that doggy smell everyone complains about. Types and Symptoms - There are two common forms of seborrhea; a dry (sicca) form and oily (oleosa) form, but most have a combination of dry and oily seborrhea. Areas that are rich in sebaceous glands like the back, face, and flanks are most affected. In these areas, you will notice scales, flakiness, itchiness, and red skin. There will also be an odor associated with seborrhea which worsens with secondary bacterial and/or yeast infection. Sebum, bacteria, and yeast make living with a dog difficult because of the smell!
~ Feline Histoplasmosis.
Histoplasmosis is a less common fungal infection. Like blastomycosis, it is a systemic infection and causes weight loss, cough, fever, and diarrhea. It can also cause feline skin lesion.
~ Canine or Feline Pemphigus skin bacterial Infection. Your pet could also have a combination of skin infections
* See Set AN227
~ Blastomycosis in Dogs
Blastomycosis is a systematic yeast like fungal infection caused by the organism Blastomyces dermatitidis, which is commonly found in decaying wood and soil. Blastomycosis occurs most frequently in male dogs, but female dogs are also susceptible.
Symptoms and Types
* Canines with Blastomycosis use the Fungal Treatment Set in conjunction with other homeopathic remedies for eyes, lungs, loss of appetite etc. The herbal formula for fungal infection should address all of the above symptoms but if acute please select other homeopathic remedies to use at same time to help ease uncomfortable symptoms whilst the herbs start working on the whole system within the body.
Zinc deficiency in psoriatics is well known and was confirmed by multiple studies. Actually when “ 380 patients with alopecia areata, alopecia androgenetica, psoriasis vulgaris, vitiligo, rosacea, venous ulcer, and atopic eczema, [were] compared with 31 healthy people” the serum zinc levels were low in all diagnoses. Add some powder of the Zinc Picolinate powder from Capsules (Thorne Research brand) to daily meals. Can readily order online from iherb.com
Unfortunately, as you know drugs don't clear anything, it's the prednisolone drug that is suppressing the symptoms.
* this is why your vet will tell you your pet needs to take this drug for life Fluconazole, to just control the symptoms.
Possible Side Effects of Fluconazole -
As with all medications, animals being treated with Fluconazole can develop side effects of various severities. Pet owners giving their animals Fluconazole or any other veterinary drugs should pay close attention to signs of worsening skin rashes; anemia, which is evidenced by pale mucous membranes and gums; digestive problems such as vomiting, diarrhea and loss of appetite; jaundice, which is evidenced by yellow skin, gums or whites of the eyes; lethargy and depression..
Aqoquel drug for skin allergies.
We have heard from a number of pet owners having cysts in-between the toes, and they are side effects of this drug. Some Vets have cut them out to get tested (not being aware of these symptoms are possible drug side effect related).
DRUG SIDE EFFECTS
In the margin of a safety study on 12-month old dogs, some of the symptoms that were considered likely to be related to Apoquel included:
interdigital furunculosis (cysts) with related dermatitis symptoms (local alopecia, erythema, abrasions, scabbing /crusts edema of feet
lymphadenopathy (abnormal or swollen lymph nodes) in peripheral nodes
Yes, you read right … the side effects include various types of skin disease in dogs who are being treated for allergies!

For all species, size, and ages.
(a) “HOMEOPATHICS”are sold in either a clear liquid or tiny white pills or granules – both have no odour or taste) Easy “application dosing” for all species:
Refer to Bottle Label for suggested frequencies repeat dosing needed per day.
NOTE: the rule is one must “repeat a dose” more frequently with less time in between each application dose, which is more important than the amount given each time. Repeat application will provide faster action.
(b) “HERBAL MEDICINES ” (brown liquid – strong odour & tasting) ”Application dosing” for all species and sizes: Canine, equine, cow, sheep, goat : add herbal drops (as recommended on bottle label) to some (unsweetened apple sauce or apple juice) for canines and oral syringe side of mouth. Can add other vitamins (crushed) Alkaline green powders etc. to mix.
Refer to Bottle Label for amount of drops per species size. e.g 60 drops = 1 teaspoon
What I do for example: If I was needing to give herb treatments and/or vitamin supplements to feline or toy dog or other small animals – I add this herbal formula to a small bowl add some boiled water (about a teaspoon) to it so to dissolve the alcohol in it, let cool, then add what vitamins If needed (powder or crushed tab – a pinch) mixed in another 50ml of water, and oral syringe once a day or twice a day …smear on a little “vegemite paste” (if cannot get Vegemite in your country, try fresh pate or slippery elm powder added can help mask the taste) around and on tip of oral syringe, as felines seem to real like the taste of this paste, but not too much as it is quite a strong taste)
(c)“NUTRITIONAL Mix ” Giving vitamins and supplements (tablets or powders) Note: always crush tablet before adding to food or liquid mix. Felines or small animals: make up 1 cup of mixture, adding approx. a pinch of some type of Green powder (alkaline powder) or Chlorella powder (cleansing of toxins) or 1/4 Teaspoons of Slippery elm powder (to mask the taste) with 1 teaspoon of herbs if you are having to also give herbal medicines (i.e. brown liquid) Med to large animals: add twice to three times the amount.
DOSING: Feline or small animal: using an oral syringe draw up 1ml and gently small sips. Or add a teaspoon to meals if they don’t mind eating it with meals (mix well into food) Do not put in Fridge. Room temp is best as too cold is dislike by felines.
DOSING: Canine, equine, cow, sheep, goat: try mixing well into food and hand piece before feeding main meals. Or dose same as suggested for felines, but add three times as much herbal medicines and vitamins to 1/2 cup of water or (unsweetened) apple sauce or apple juice.
What I do for example: If i was needing to give herb treatments and/or vitamin supplements to feline or toy dog or other small animals – I add this herbal formula to 1/2 cup of boiled hot water to it so to dissolve the alcohol in it, let cool, then add what vitamins If needed (powder or crushed tab – a pinch) mixed in another 50ml of water, and oral syringe once a day or twice a day …. smear on a little “vegemite paste” (if cannot get Vegemite in your country, try fresh pate or slippery elm powder added can help mask the taste) around and on tip of oral syringe, as felines seem to real like the taste of this paste, but not too much as it is quite a strong taste)
Slippery Elm Powder If needing to add or use Slippery Elm powder
FOR CONDITIONS like …. diarrhea, stomach ulcers, or sore inflamed mouth or mouth ulcers, constipation, or IBS (i.e. colitis), plus it can also been given as a liquid meal given orally via syringe as it is highly nutritional (oral liquid feeding) for convalescing during illness when not eating solids.
CONVALESCING ..can been given as a liquid meal given orally via syringe as it is highly nutritional (oral liquid feeding) for convalescing during illness when not eating solids or not eating very well. ~ Add a small amount of powder to the mix to enough to make a runny liquid mix, if you put too much of the powder it will become thick and gluggy, if this happens you will need to add more liquid to it. Can add crushed vitamins and herbal medicines to this as well. OPTIONS: Oral dose in syringe or add to meals three times a day or more to maintain normal health again, then can stop or reduce frequencies.

All of the products I bought assisted Rosie. But all of these conditions that she had must have been a result of the tumour she had. She was fine on Sunday and on Monday this week she looked so sick though still eating. Took her to the vet who performed an ultra sound and told me she had a tumour. I was given choices but ultimately told she would not survive an operation due to age - she was 17 years of age and condition. She had lost a lot of weight because another vet told me she had pancreatitis and put her on a low fat diet. Sorry! I am so upset because I euthanised her on Monday. I want to thank you for everything because every product that I was using addressed those medical issues and gave her relief. You just never know if you have done the right thing. Thanks for everything.
Thnx so much for all your super knowledgable advice with our 15yr old kelpie Choco. She lost all her hair in clumps due to a fungal infection 4mnths ago but after 10 days of hampl fungal support set ,her hair started growing back...but more lustious and glossy than weve every seen...like the dog in the movie "red dog"!her eyes stopped weeping and her skin odour vanished, no more itching or pus filled sacs on her tummy either. i highly recommend this "internal fungal herb" treatment. Regards E. H. Darwin
In our refuge, We have started this protocole for a dog who presents bold patches which get bacteria and fungus infected sometimes and scratches often. he has been under cortisone and antibiotics for a while before with no success... now we mix Microbial Immune Defense in a bowl of mash chicken carcasse (we buy it locally... not organic unfortunately but at least it is raw and complete ) with a teaspoon of cod liver oil per day. At the moment, with the 208 preparations, we have not noticed yet any improvement on the part of the regrowth of the hair but it is too early yet. What we can notice is that there is no new spot and that the areas which tended to get infected are healing gently... We also prepare a shampoo buy mixing up "savon noir" with a few drops of the Fungi Skin Rinse to wash him... we mix also the Microbial Immune Defense in the same chicken meal for my ***** who has an immune deficiency... which causes her allergies to all kinds of things since she is 8 months old... we maintained her all this time (16 years) with a rather acceptable state but she carried on scratching... with these preparations, she improves a lot. We also use the Microbial Immune Defense on a dog who has a generalised demodecia, along with his allopathic medecine that we hope to stop soon...It is spectacular...because the usual cure would have taken at least two or three month to relly improve his skin condition and with this Microbial Immune Defense... it has already an effect in ten days!... and it is known that this skin invasion by th demodex canis is due to a low immunity... so the conclusion is that this Microbial Immune Defense improves drastically the defenses, helping the animal body to fight against bacterias, fungus and other parasites. I think that without even knowing the cause of these skin problems... for any skin infection, a lot of scratching etc... the first thing I am going to do from now on is always use that one at least for one month to help build up their immune system.
I have used this product previously on our new addition (13 year old Maltese X), and it worked wonderfully. Unfortunately, Dawson's condition has returned after 12 months, so I am back to doing my best for him a second time around. Unfortunately, Dawson is smarter than what I thought, and he doesn't quite appreciate his feet being bathed, however, we are persevering. I can say that this product did take a number of months for his condition to be cleared, and once it was he was an extremely happy dog.
